About Luca Herard Gherardi Contemporary Oil Painter

Where Nature Meets Myth
Painter of Liminal Spaces, silence, and myth
My name is Luca Herard Gherardi (Herard), an Italian contemporary oil painter, musician, and educator whose work explores the meeting point between nature, Celtic mythology, and liminal spaces.
For more than two decades I have combined painting, music, and expressive education, developing projects where creativity becomes a path toward observation, transformation, and connection. Alongside my artistic practice, I collaborate with educational and social organizations, designing workshops that place imagination and artistic expression at the centre of personal and collective growth.
My paintings are inspired by the landscapes of Scotland and Ireland, ancient folklore, wildlife, forests, and the symbolic relationship between humanity and the natural world. Recurring subjects such as Selkies, Aos Sí, Druantia, Brigid, red poppies, robins, deer, and ancient woodlands become visual metaphors for transition, memory, silence, and belonging.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, I seek to create paintings that exist between realism and imagination. Rather than illustrating myths, I reinterpret them through a contemporary language, inviting the viewer into spaces where the visible and the invisible meet.
Series such as Selkie in the Storm, The Silent Guardian, The Quiet Rite, Red Silence, and Druantia – Among the Silent Trees reflect an ongoing exploration of atmosphere, symbolism, and emotional landscapes. Each work begins with observation of nature and develops into a dialogue between landscape, mythology, and inner experience.
Whether through painting or education, my purpose remains the same: to create spaces where silence, beauty, and imagination encourage reflection, transformation, and a renewed relationship with the natural world.
